Golf sport is a very popular. It is one of the most loved sports in the world, having reached peak notoriety among the wealthier classes. But how does golf work? Basically, players are supposed to use a club to push a ball into a hole. There are many different clubs which are used on different terrains and players are usually followed around by a “caddy”, a person whose job is to carry around the golfer’s different clubs. Golf played in two main ways: stroke play, with the players trying to push the ball into the hole in the fewest possible number of strokes, and match play, in which an individual or a team strives to keep the lowest score on the most individual holes in a round. Stroke play is very widespread, especially among professional golfers. There are also other forms of golf which are slightly less popular: bogey or par competition; stableford; basic pairs formats; team formats.
The modern game finds its origins in 15th century Scotland. However, some ancient Roman and Chinese sports show significant resemblances to golf that many historians have come to link these traditions to the modern practice of the game.
